Jane is the musical founder of Da Capo and author of the Da Capo ToolBox and Singing Instrumentalist series and other educational resources.
She began her teaching career as a peripatetic cello teacher in West Sussex and went on to work (1985-1991) with the famous Tower Hamlets Strings Project, run by Sheila Nelson. Here she came into contact with both the Kodaly and the Dalcroze method and worked alongside some of the most inspirational teachers of the time.
Whilst developing the Da Capo Foundation Jane has worked as a lecturer at Trinity College of Music, a cello teacher at St Albans High School for Girls and run her own private practice. She has also given numerous INSET training sessions for music services across the country including Berkshire, West Sussex, Waltham Forest, Argyll, Thurrock and Luton. Jane was also eurythmics and cello tutor for the National Children's Orchestra for several years.
Chris Cooper
Whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Chris took part in workshops as part of the Wigmore Hall Education Programme at Paddington Green Children's Library, with his wind quintet the Omega Ensemble. Working with the key stage one children in this project, and seeing their reaction to live music, started his interest in bringing music to young people. He has also performed with the Academy Players at the Cheltenham Festival, and brought music into schools and hospitals. As bassoonist on this year's London Philharmonic Orchestra 'Future Firsts' programme, he has recently been involved in the LPO Concert and Player link education projects in schools in South London.
Jane Mitchell
Jane is the Principal Flute of Aurora Orchestra. She has been teaching since the age of sixteen, and has taught flute, piano, recorder, guitar and musicianship. She teaches pupils from age 5 to adult and at all abilities. As well as individual pupils, she has taught classroom music at Yerbury Primary School in North London and has played for the City of London Sinfonia schools chamber music concerts. In 2005 she gave a series of flute masterclasses in Jersualem for students studying at the Said Conservatoire of Music. Jane is currently teaching at the Da Capo Saturday Music Centre, where she is training to become a licensed teacher in the Da Capo method.
