To open its residency at the Melbourne Festival, Aurora collaborates with tenor Allan Clayton to present a unique and haunting ‘orchestral theatre’ performance built around Britten’s Nocturne. Charting a course through the darkness of a troubled night, the programme features a kaleidoscope of repertoire including music by Vivaldi, Ligeti, The Beatles and Thomas Adès. Brett Dean’s extraordinary Pastoral Symphony – an elegiac meditation on the beauty of birdsong, and its inexorable silencing at the hands of man – completes a richly eclectic journey.
Aurora’s collaboration with Allan Clayton is supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
