Aurora Orchestra

Hear Us Out! / Listen Live!

Aurora performing alongside Capoeira group Cordao del Ouro at the BBC Proms, 2010

Listen Live! projects are linked to Aurora’s cross-arts series, New Moves.  The variety of musical repertoire, and the collaboration with experts in different art forms in the Aurora New Moves series provides the perfect opportunity for young people to access orchestral music.

Listen Live! projects are working with young people in Southwark, Waltham Forest, Cambridgeshire and Hammersmith & Fulham to achieve the following goals:

  • To enable young people to explore orchestral repertoire in depth.
  • To give young people the opportunity to create and perform their own musical works alongside professional artists.
  • To enable participants to access and engage with live, classical music performance.

Working with an individual secondary school or community group over a term prior to each St Luke’s concert, Aurora Orchestra musicians and collaborating artists (for example Capoeira dancers) work with students in Years 10 and 11 to explore how artists collaborate to produce new works, and facilitate pupils in creating and performing their own pieces. Each of these projects culminates in a presentation of the new student works, performed alongside Aurora musicians and collaborative artists.

This project also includes ticket subsidies to enable every participant to attend one of Aurora’s own collaborative performances at LSO St Luke’s.
