Caroline joined Aurora in May 2016 as Director of Development & Strategic Planning, overseeing the orchestra’s fundraising activity and helping to shape artistic, educational and business planning for the coming years. She began her career as a lawyer, practising for ten years at a major international law firm before taking on roles as a project and business change manager. Having always wanted to work in the arts, she made the move in 2009, working for six years at the Barbican Centre in their Development team. Caroline is an avid fan of contemporary music and arts, and plays (very amateur) clarinet with contemporary music ensemble CoMA. She has a passionate belief in music education and that everyone should have the chance to enjoy music and the arts.
Aurora entered my consciousness with a literal bang, when a large gong fell over in the middle of a concert in Canterbury, missing players by millimetres. Needless to say the orchestra continued impeccably! Since joining the team it’s the little things that are making the memories – the sound of the cellos warming up backstage, watching a rehearsal for ‘work’... A standout moment was the memorised Beethoven 5, hearing new life in a piece I thought I’d heard too many times and watching the audience feel the same.
