New international appointment for Nicholas Collon

2 May 2019

Exciting news this morning from Finland! Aurora’s Founder and Principal Conductor, Nicholas Collon, is to take up an additional role as the new Chief Conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (FRSO). He’ll become the first non-Finnish Chief Conductor in the distinguished orchestra’s 90-year history, a position chosen by its musicians and previously held by conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo and the current incumbent Hannu Lintu.

Nick takes up the FRSO position in Autumn 2021, while continuing his existing roles as Principal Conductor of Aurora and Principal Guest Conductor of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. He’ll remain Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor at the Residentie Orkest in The Hague until July 2021, seeing the orchestra into its new concert hall in the centre of the city.

Nick, we look forward to following your musical adventures in Finland over coming seasons!
