We’re delighted to announce that Aurora will be appearing as part of this summer’s BBC Proms season, full details of which have been unveiled this morning.
Aurora’s memorised performances have become an annual fixture at the Proms in recent years, with ‘by heart’ presentations of symphonies by Mozart, Beethoven, Shostakovich and Berlioz. This year we’ll be harnessing the unique potential of an orchestra playing without music stands or sheet music to get inside Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite: exploring the work’s textures and themes and unpacking its intricate musical narrative with the help of Tom Service, before delivering a complete performance of the work.
The concert opens with another Russian classic: Rachmaninov’s virtuosic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, with former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Pavel Kolesnikov as soloist.
Details of how to book will be announced in due course – pop the date in your diary now and visit the BBC Proms website for information about when online booking opens!
