Aurora Orchestra & Abel Selaocoe

Sat 8 March 2025
7:00 pm, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre

Let’s dance! Join Aurora Orchestra and incomparable cellist, vocalist and performer Abel Selaocoe in a joyful celebration of culture, faith and life.

High energy and enthralling: a party is always guaranteed when Abel Selaocoe is on stage. South African performer Selaocoe’s Cello Concerto, Four Spirits, is a jubilant celebration of his cultural roots and an ardent homage to his homeland. Equally at home showcasing his extraordinary vocal techniques as he is on his cello, Selaocoe’s talents as a multi-faceted performer are undeniable. He joins Aurora for the first time in the UK, alongside percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger.

And in a perfect complement, Aurora Orchestra performs Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony from memory, music which the composer himself hailed as “a sheer expression of joy, happiness and the affirmation of life”. As he battled ongoing health problems, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 found light in the darkest of places: an energetic masterpiece, full of optimism.
