Students can experience an orchestra from the inside in a special show for schools by Aurora Orchestra at the spectacular Drumsheds venue.
This event will give school groups a unique opportunity to experience two iconic pieces of symphonic music – Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Ravel’s Boléro – from inside the orchestra. With Aurora Orchestra’s musicians ‘exploded’ across the Drumsheds warehouse space and performing from memory without sheet music or stands, students will be able stand up-close to the musicians, circulate around the space and explore the performance from different positions within the orchestra, choosing their own journey through the work.
Students will experience the visceral thrill of live orchestral performance in a unique and memorable way. They will develop skills in listening and understanding music through elements of audience participation. We hope the project will inspire them to develop an appreciation for orchestral music in the long term.
Teachers from participating schools will also be invited to a CPD session on Tuesday 1 October 4.15–5pm led by the Aurora team, focused on using orchestral repertoire to develop pupils’ skills in listening and appraising and what to expect from this event.
