Aurora returns to the Kurhaus Wiesbaden with pianist and online sensation Hayato Sumino for a night of playful musical experimentation.
Sumino’s instinctive, improvisatory flair makes him the perfect collaborator for a programme featuring George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Inspired by the “musical kaleidoscope of America” and driven by Gershwin’s own sense of adventure, this seminal symphonic-jazz work blends classical tradition with the energy of early 20th-century jazz –promising an evening of true “metropolitan madness.”
We then turn to one of our most ambitious challenges yet: a memorised performance of Mahler’s monumental First Symphony. From its atmospheric “awakening of nature” to its blazing, triumphant finale, Mahler’s Titan becomes even more vivid and immediate when performed entirely from memory.
