Aurora’s Rite of Spring

After our 2025 inaugural weekend at Snape to celebrate our 20th anniversary, we’re returning for a weekend residency, full of rhythm, collaboration and joyous music-making.
On Friday night we join forces with the BBC Singers, Britten Pears Chamber Choir and pianist Nicholas McCarthy for a programme ablaze with colour, rhythm and life. From Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand to Fauré’s celestial Requiem, via the pulsing rhythms of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Ravel’s Boléro, we move inexorably from darkness into light.
And then we’ll create a riot in the concert hall, as we bring our award-winning exploration of Stravinsky’s groundbreaking The Rite of Spring to Snape Maltings. We give the iconic work our Orchestral Theatre treatment, bringing Stravinsky’s epic score to life. In a first-half dramatisation of the unruly creation and premiere of the work, actors Karl Queensborough (reprising his 2023 role) and Sarah Twomey join Conductor Nicholas Collon in multifaceted roles as the composer and his collaborators.
