Steven Osborne with Aurora Principal Players

Fri 29 November 2024
7:30 pm, Hall One, Kings Place

Scotland’s most revered pianist, Steven Osborne, is joined by two of Aurora
Orchestra’s Principal Players for an evening of mesmerising French music.

Scottish pianist Steven Osborne OBE is one of Britain’s most treasured musicians,
celebrated for the immense depth of his musicality and exceptional refinement of
expression across his diverse repertoire.

In this concert, Osborne is reunited with Aurora’s Leader Maia Cabeza and Principal Cello Sébastien van Kuijk for an evening of Debussy and Ravel, composers central to his musical life. Beginning with the freshly radical Arabesques of Debussy’s youth, we enter the exquisitely sensuous instrumental sonatas of his final years, where he drew inspiration from the well-spring of the French Baroque when, in his words, ‘music was subject to the laws of beauty inscribed in the movements of Nature herself.’

In the second half, Osborne prefaces Ravel high-octane Piano Trio with two scintillating visions from Miroirs.

‘Osborne’s attack is ferocious and fearless, his tenderness beyond words. His self appears
subsumed in service to the composer. This is the best it gets.’ (The Observer)
