For this Royal Opera House collaboration, we give the world premiere of The Monstrous Child by young British composer Gavin Higgins, known for his bold and imaginative music. Based on the dark humorous novel of the same title by best-selling author Francesca Simon, the new opera follows the life of Hel, the teenage daughter of Norse god Loki, who tries to find her place in the mythical world. This production in the newly re-opened Linbury Theatre brings together puppetry and set designs inspired by the Norse landscape, and is conducted by Jessica Cottis.
