Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7

First performed: Mon 7 September 2020

Beethoven’s most joyful, exhilarating symphony, memorised and illustrated with an introduction from Nicholas Collon and Tom Service.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ “a joyous celebration of energy” (Andrew Clements, Guardian)

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 has a special place in Proms history: it was the last piece Proms founder-conductor Henry Wood directed before his death in 1944. It also holds a special place in our heart, as the first piece we performed following the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

Following an introduction from Nicholas Collon and BBC Radio 3’s Tom Service for a musically-illustrated introduction to Beethoven’s exhilarating and intensely rhythmic work, exploring the Symphony with live musical excerpts, before Aurora perform Symphony No. 7 entirely from memory – without chairs, sheet music or music stands.
