Alexandra Wood

Co-Leader

Two violinists performing on stage during a concert. Both are seated, wearing black formal attire, and are focused on their music. The musician on the left is intently playing her violin, while the musician on the right is reading sheet music on a stand. Behind them, parts of a grand piano and the softly lit stage are visible, with a blue ambient light adding a serene atmosphere.

Alex graduated from Cambridge with a starred double first, and went on to the Royal College of Music to study with Itzhak Rashkovsky. She subsequently became a Junior Fellow. A prize winner of various international competitions, in addition to her role as Leader with Aurora she also leads City of London Sinfonia, and is regularly invited to lead other ensembles including Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and London Sinfonietta. A keen ballroom dancer, she is also a loyal (obsessed?!) figure skating fan. She can also play the bassoon.

Aurora Memory

Choosing my favourite Aurora memory is tough: But it would be hard to beat the lovely mini tour of the ‘Four Quarters’ quartet by Tom Adès. For me it was the perfect chamber music experience performing (with my wonderful Aurora colleagues) a challenging, but fabulous piece of new music. It was special working with the composer, and a little luxury being able to perform it more than just once.
