John Reid

Piano

John first played with Aurora in 2007 (Birtwistle’s Secret Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music). Personal highlights since then have included Britten’s Young Apollo at the 2016 Aldeburgh Festival; three appearances in the Mozart Piano Concerto cycle at Kings Place; a T-Rex cameo, as part of Beethoven and the Dinosaurs (Far, Far Away series); and solo collaborations with artist William Lindley and Poet in the City.

He is especially well known in the fields of chamber music, song and contemporary performance. Much in demand as a guest pianist with other leading ensembles, he performs regularly with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.

John is an Associate and Professor of Ensemble Piano at the Royal Academy of Music.

Aurora Memory

I have Aurora to thank for some of the headiest post-concert dopamine rushes of my life: I’ll always remember the sense of relief and achievement which I felt at the end of two days playing exceptionally thorny repertoire live on Radio 3 at the Wellcome Collection. The Brazil tour of 2014 also stands out as a personal highlight: great music making with wonderful colleagues in a fascinating country.
